The Stickers Story

Posted by Crossed Films on January 22, 2009 at 4:33 PM Comments comments (2)

I thought I'd take some time to talk about our stickers, as they're an important part of Crossed Films. The sticker idea was mentioned to me from a friend who was in a band. We were about talking my site and merchandise, when he mentioned StickerJunkie.com. So later that day I checked It out. They made custom stickers dirt cheap. I put in my first order for 200 stickers at close to .25 a sticker.

Hard Rock Cafe

I started out putting them on any sign I could find. I'd give them to friends, and they would plaster them all over school. They would soon run out, and I'd have to order more. Between then and now, I've ordered close to 2000 stickers, and I have less than 100 left now. I started making it a point to keep a handful of stickers in my pocket at all times, whether I was just walking into town or going on a field trip to Boston. During one field trip, we handed out a bunch of stickers to another visiting school. They're teacher had a firm talk with me, and took every single sticker we handed out. Once we started filming events and concerts, we'd bring a stack to hand out to fans.

Nowadays, young strangers will stop me on the street and ask if I have any spare stickers on me. I usually did. I think people were surprised to how gracious I was when giving out stickers. Someone would ask for one, and I'd give them fifteen. I simply had too many stickers to know what to do with. It's also resulted in a few 'sticker fights' with friends. I don't understand why some people look at the stickers, and feel that they have to tear them down. That's when I started putting them in visible hard-to-reach places.

Getting down is the hard part

That way no one would dare take it down. I would sometimes go to extreme lengths to put a sticker where I wanted one. People would then be more curious to how the devil the sticker got there than what the sticker was actually promoting. I knew my exceptional climbing skills would come in handy some day. I also have a giant bag full of Crossed Films pins, but those are a little harder to get rid of.

This sticker stayed up at Mcdonalds for a few months before being taken down.

Making a Crossed Film

Posted by Crossed Films on January 20, 2009 at 12:45 PM Comments comments (0)
There's a lot of different approaches to making a movie. This is the way we do it, and it works best for us. The first step is always the hardest, coming up with an idea. We'll think about tons of ideas before we pick one that we like best. Sometimes we brainstorm ideas endlessly, but the best ideas usually come to us when we least expect it. Once we have an idea for the movie, we start writing a script. Depending on the length of the movie we're about to make, the script can take anywhere from an hour to a week to write. Sometimes we'll even start filming before the script is finished. Our scripts look nothing like real movie scripts. It's not well formatted and doesn't use any spiffy director terms. We write the scripts in the way that makes most sense to us. That generally includes a lot of run-on sentences and even incomplete sentences, and sometimes little doodles. Take a look at the script for SD3.

Jeff and I both have horrible child-like handwriting. We are usually the only people that understand the script. Once we the think the script is good enough to start filming, we type up a Shooting Script. We tend to keep one script for the whole movie, and we don't take very good care of it. The scripts usually sit in the dirt, get folded into numerous pockets, and fight some other bad conditions. I usually carry a Sharpie with me to cross out what we already filmed. We don't film the movie in order either. We film whatever scene we can get done first, based on who's around and where we have to go to film it. We know the movie is done, once every line is crossed out with a sharpie.

Almost always, things that were never in the script end up in the movie. We like to improvise sometimes, or come up with new ideas on the spot. Sometimes something in the script just isn't working for us, so we change it or just take it out altogether. We film our movies on MiniDV tapes. I have a Converse shoe box filled with at least 25 tapes. I don't have enough money at the moment to buy more tapes, so when we start filming a movie I go through the tapes to find one or two to tape over. It's usually old concert or graduation footage that we tape over.

The script in Billy Stone

Once we're done filming or even during, I start the editing process. I have to transfer the footage to one computer, save it to a flash drive, and then save it to my laptop to edit. My laptop is quite ghetto. I fell on it one night, and the screen is completely cracked. I have to hook it up to a monitor next to my bed, which takes away the whole freedom of being a laptop. These days, I edit our movies with Ulead Video Studio 11. Then the movie gets saved, uploaded to YouTube and MySpace, and then finally posted on our MySpace and website. Then I pray people like it. Thus completeing the movie process.

Fun Useless Facts

Fun Useless Facts

Anyone that used to read our old forum (aka no one) will remember our Fun Useless Facts, pointless trivial secrets about our movies. I thought I'd try to resurrect them.

Stereo From Hell

Right when Will says "Hey, cool toaster" you can briefly see a Crossed Films sticker on the TV behind him.

Bury Me In The Snow

This was originally going to be an Uncrossed episode.

My hand was bleeding cuz I cut it on broken glass. Alot of broken glass.

When I snowboarded out the window was the first time I stepped on a snowboad in 2 years.

The song we used is "The Plot to Bomb the Panhandle" by A Day to Remember.

No More Yogurt
We only had 4 yogurt containers for this movie. We had to take those four and make it appear like there was dozens strewn everywhere.

Car Doors

I had the car door idea for a while. One day I went for it and backed out. The next weekend I had no other ideas to film, so I said screw it and just did it.

Extreme Hackysack
We burned 3 hackysacks in this movie, yes 3.

SD3: The Sperm Supremacy
Other titles we considered were The White Knight, The Pink Knight, and The Incredible Bulge.

The Tea Party
We made this movie while I was kicked out of my house and homeless. So I filmed it at a friends house.

Winfreid was chosen for the bear's name only minutes beforehand because someone named Winfreid added our myspace as a friend while we were making the movie.

Freedom of Speech

I was reading off wikipedia when i pierced my lip.

Billy Stone
I wrote the script for this movie for an English project. Jeff and I filmed the movie after school everyday and then showed it to the class in our high school's auditorium. We got an A, but that didn't stop me from failing the class for the year.

I got the idea for Billy Stone while working at a video store. There was a big section of inspiring sport movies, and I thought it would be funny to spoof.

We filmed all the bike stuff in two different sandpits.

The snake in the movie was my harmless pet. His name is Gir.

Hell on Wheels

All the spark plates were given to us for free from the Tail Devils company. They gave us maybe 20, as long as we promised to make a sweet flick with them.

Sunshine Bear

Ok, i'm aware that the care bear is actually Love-a-Lot bear. We just wanted to use the name that sounded best. It was actually supposed to be called Funshine Bear, but I kept messing it up. If you listen close I say Funshine instead of Sunshine a few times.

SuperDick 2

If you look closely when Captain Condom is hit by the car, you can see that the Sperminator is driving it.

In once scene when the sperminator is talking, you can see a cereal box of Poop Flakes. That's a reference to one of our older movies

Uncrossed: Episode 1
Episode 1 is basically just all the footage I took off my camera during the period of a month where my mom was "out of town". It's not that we partied everyday. We just had a million people over every day and a million stories.

The riding on top of the car footage was filmed in the same sandpit as Billy Stone.

Uncrossed: Episode 2
Filming this abruptly ended when the principal yelled at us and tried to take away my video camera. I responded with a "fuck you" and my middle finger.

Jeff got way more hugs than shown in the movie. I could only film the ones in the classes we had together though.

Uncrossed: Episode 3
The TV we smashed was one I had forever. It stopped working one day. It can be seen in The Good Times and Sunshine Bear.

The real name of the place we went to is The Bethlehem Dam, or so I'm told.

Uncrossed: Episode 4
I didn't film any of the band footage in this. I left my camera in Joe's barn for a few days and they used it a couple times.

Uncrossed: Episode 5

The tiki torch fight was filmed in the same place as The Tea Party, only a month or two prior when there was still snow on the ground.

And i'll update this later.

Power to the Peaceful

I don't see why some people have to look down at me and my videos with such disgust. I like to make movies. It makes me happy, and I hope they make the people who watch them happy. I'm getting alot of shit from the community where I live for movies I make. If you don't like them, don't watch them. I'm not forcing you to watch them. Can't you let me express my creativity. I try to be an overall nice person. I'm so easy to get along with, but if you get in my face and try to bring down my spirits, then I won't hesitate to speak my mind. I've made numerous movies for charity and people that just need help with projects. Most of the time I do it for free unless you offer to compensate me. I removed my newest sticker movie from youtube and changed it to remove any questionable and offensive content. I only did this because I can't afford to lose my You Tube account. Thanks for listening to my random ramblings.

Weding Video

Earlier this December I started an internship at the Mountain View Grand filming different parts of their hotel for their website. This wedding is the first video i've completed for them. This is just part of the whole video. The full thing is a half hour long.

Websites up. It needs more comments, ratings, posts, and feedback. I'm working on getting more stickers that actually say crossedfilms.TV. Hopefully that will bring in some more webtraffic. It's my senior year and alot of people are asking me if i'm going to go to college to pursue my film career. The quick answer is no. I'm going to pursue my film career, but school is definately not my scene. I've never taken part in any film class, club, or seminar. My friends and I learn all this stuff on our own, giving us our own unique style. I'm not going to change that by learning the 'traditional' filmmaking ways. Huzzah!

Sometimes when i go pee, i start peeing and then i turn my head and (my cat) is in the tub, and she hornily meows, and i scream, and then she just sits there and looks at me, and i slowly close the shower curtain, and she meows from behind it, and then i finish peeing.

and also...

I went to bed last night after i signed off and then i woke up at like 1 in the morning randomly, and i went to grab a soda from the kitchen and my sister was sleeping on the living room floor. For some reason she was 6 feet wide, and i had to step over her. and i think i stepped on her face and she screamed, WTF.
